Mahdi completed a Bachelor of Biotechnology with first-class Honours at UNSW in 2022. He joined the lab in 2022. His Honours project focused on artificial transcription factors and their recruitment to genomic sites. His PhD focuses on factors that increase delta hemoglobin expression for treating beta-haemoglobinopathies. Mahdi also studied 5 years of doctorate of Pharmacy at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences before he joined the UNSW. Mahdi enjoys playing badminton, calligraphy and hiking.
